for
Toshiba Models T4700CT and T4700CS
THIS GRAPHICS DEVICE DRIVER SUPPORTS THE WD90C24 GRAPHICS CONTROLLER FROM THE

2.1 PRODUCT AND THE FOLLOWING TOSHIBA** SYSTEMS: T4700CT AND T4700CS.
This diskette contains:
o The WD90C24 Device Driver for OS/2 2.1 (or later versions).
o Maintenance updates to the OS/2 product that are required for the
successful operation of the WD90C24 Device Driver.
o This README, which covers the following topics:
- Compatibility
- Features of the WD90C24 Device Driver
- Functional Restrictions
- Installation Instructions:
- Diskette
- Redirected
- CID Environment
COMPATIBILITY STATEMENT
-----------------------
This WD90C24 Device Driver has been tested for compatibility with Toshiba
Models: T4700CT and T4700CS.
FEATURES
---------
This WD90C24 Device Driver provides seamless support for accelerated graphics
when used with the minimum required video memory. It conforms to the OS/2 2.1
32-bit flat memory model and is designed to function as a 32-bit Presentation
Manager* display driver under the OS/2 2.1 32-bit graphics engine.
The WD90C24 Device Driver supports these resolutions and color depths:
Resolutions Number of Video Memory Display
Colors Required
640 x 480 256 1MB Internal/External
800 x 600 256 1MB External
1024 x 768 256 1MB External
It supports the following number of columns and rows in an OS/2 full-screen
session:
Columns Rows
132 25
132 43
EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL DISPLAYS
------------------------------
An external display attached to your system can use resolutions above 640x480,
while an internal display cannot. Whenever you switch to an internal display,
you should change the resolution to 640x480x256. To change the resolution:
1. Open "OS/2 System".
2. Open "System Setup".
3. Open "System".
4. Select 640x480x256.
5. Close the notebook.
6. Shutdown; then restart the system to activate the change.
If you do not follow the above steps, the desktop will automatically switch to
the 640x480x256 resolution because the internal display cannot handle the
higher resolutions. However, Windows applications running in a WIN-OS/2 window
or full-screen session will have problems because the WIN-OS/2 session settings
cannot automatically update from a higher resolution to the 640x480x256
resolution. The OS/2 desktop will be functional enough to correct this
situation by using the above steps. These steps can be done using either the
internal or external display.
FUNCTIONAL RESTRICTIONS
-----------------------
o Due to a hardware restriction, MODE 132 will not work on the internal
display.
o MODE 40 on an external display will utilize only half the screen.
o CorelDRAW** 2.0 will not run in a WIN-OS/2* window session. It must
be run in a WIN-OS/2 full-screen session.
o MicroGrafx Charisma 2.1 will not run in a WIN-OS/2 window session.
It must be run in a WIN-OS/2 full-screen session.
o If your system comes up with a black screen, toggle the Fn+F5 key to
correct the problem. If you have an external keyboard attached to the
system, refer to the system's reference book for information about the
internal or external display function key.
o If you are using an external display, you might occasionally encounter
a band (usually black) across the screen when you startup the system.
To correct this problem:
1. Perform a Shutdown.
2. Power the system off then on again.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
--------------------------
This WD90C24 Device Driver is compatible with OS/2 2.1 (or later versions). Do
not install this driver on versions of OS/2 prior to OS/2 2.1.
You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed on your system to install this
device driver.
INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE
--------------------------
NOTES:
1. The SETUP program creates a directory called C:\ARCHIVE on the
target drive (assuming the target drive is C). This directory will
contain backups of the files installed on the target drive. If you
want to change the name of the directory, edit the RESPONSE.FIL file
on the diskette and change the :ARCHIVE C:\ARCHIVE line to reflect
the changes.
2. The SETUP program installs this video device driver to the C drive.
If you want to install to a target drive other than C, edit
the RESPONSE.FIL file on the source drive and change the :TARGET C:\
line in the file to reflect the new target drive and directory.
To install this WD90C24 Device Driver from diskette:
1. Insert the diskette into drive A (or any other diskette drive).
2. Open an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session.
3. At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following command:
A:SETUP A: C:
where: A: is the drive containing the device driver
C: is the drive where OS/2 is installed
Press Enter.
This program will copy all the necessary files to the OS/2 drive.
4. Remove the diskette from the diskette drive and then press
Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.

created in the OS2\INSTALL directory. This file identifies the OS/2
system files that were updated and indicates whether the installation was
successful. The contents of this file might be useful if you need to report an
installation problem.
REDIRECTED INSTALLATION
-----------------------
1. Make a directory for the Western Digital source files. For example:

:SOURCE A:\ line in the file to reflect the new source drive and
directory. Save the changes to the file. For example:
:SOURCE D:\WD
6. At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following command:
D:\WD\SETUP D:\WD C:
where: D:\WD is the source drive and directory containing the
device driver
C: is the drive where OS/2 is installed
Press Enter.
This program will copy all the necessary files to the OS/2 drive.
7. After the files have been copied, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the
system.
8. Open the "OS/2 System" folder.
9. Open the "System Setup" folder.
